OBS STUDIO AS A STREAMING TOOL

Assalamualaikum everyone.

This week I have been given a task to use OBS Studio software as a tools for editing our visual screen during streaming. OBS Studio can be consider as the Adobe Photoshop for streaming. Have you ever seen gamer who streaming that show the camera of themselves with the screen that they use to play the game at the same time? Most probably almost all of the streamers are using the OBS studio during streaming.

Example of video streaming using two display at the same scene

Besides gamer, there are few teachers and educators using this kind of streaming as well during their lessons.

This is such a great technology and skills that can be used for educator like me in order to create good visual to be share with students during class.

Actually, I have never know about OBS Studio before and have been wondering how these people can create this kind of streaming. I was pretty sure the technique that they use are very difficult. Suddenly during previous class my lecturer Ms Aimi teach our lesson and using the same kind of technique. So, I spark a question to Ms Aimi on how did she create that kind of technique.

So this week Ms Aimi have introduce us with OBS Studio and based on what she had taught us, I have seen this software is quite easy and convenience. Even for a beginner like me can use this software efficiently.

Unfortunately, I have installed the OBS Studio in my MARA laptop but I have problem in open up the software. I am not sure what happen my be some sort of security have been set up in my laptop for the security purpose.

Hence, I decided to install it in my desktop PC that I have in my home. However, the PC that I used in my home does not equipped with webcam. I have purchased a webcam in Shopee and will arrived in next week because the webcam was shipped from China.

So far, this is the result from my exploration on OBS Studio.

From this visual I have connect with the OBS Virtual Cam where this visual can be used as my camera display during my meeting in Google Meet.

I can't wait to use this technology during my class. I hope by using this technique will improve my delivery in class and can increase the attention given by my students.

Thank you Ms Aini for introducing us this wonderful software!

WHAT HAPPEN TO EDUCATION IF COVID-19 PANDEMIC IS OCCUR DURING MICROCOMPUTER ERA?

Assalamualaikum Everyone!

Have we ever wonder to live in an era where a pandemic is occurring and revolving  around us? Either we accept or not we have to accept the reality of Covid-19 pandemic is around us for almost a year already. Before the existence of Covid-19, almost all country does not have any preparation to face this tiny creature of Allah. Even for a great country such as USA and Europe are struggling to control the breakout due to lack of preparation and strategy to face this pandemic. In fact, for the moment USA is the country with the highest number of cases and death due to Covid-19!

Covid-19 have made us realize that besides having advanced technology, humanity needs good mentality and discipline to fight against such disease.

How Does it Start?

According to analysis of some journalist, starting from December 2019, the number of COVID-19 cases in Hubei gradually increased, reaching 60 by 20 December and at least 266 by 31 December. That same day, the WHO received reports of a cluster of viral pneumonia cases of an unknown cause in Wuhan and an investigation was launched at the start of January 2020.

According to official Chinese sources, these early cases were mostly linked to the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market, which also sold live animals.

A test report addressed to Wuhan Central Hospital, from company CapitalBio Medlab, stated that there was an erroneous positive result for SARS, causing a group of doctors at Wuhan Central Hospital to alert their colleagues and relevant hospital authorities of the result. After series of investigation, Wuhan Municipal Health Commission made the first public announcement of a pneumonia outbreak of unknown cause, confirming 27 cases. This public announcement have trigger an investigation from WHO and other associations to control the outbreak of this pandemic and find a solution to cure this pandemic.

A full chronology of Covid-19 outbreak can be read in this link:

https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/interactive-timeline/#event-0

Effect of Covid-19 to the World

The pandemic has caused global social and economic disruption, including the largest global recession since the Great Depression in 1930. All sectors that play important roles in developing a country such as economy, education, politics, culture and many more have been affected. It has led to the postponement or cancellation of events, widespread supply shortages exacerbated by panic buying, agricultural disruption and food shortages, and decreased emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases. Educational institutions have been partially or fully closed

In order to prevent the collapse of national economy, all country all over the world have taken measure by providing support in term of financially, economically, opportunities and so on to ensure the people are surviving this pandemic. On 27 March 2020, Malaysia have announce a stimulus package to all citizen that cost more than 250 Bil which is more than 20% from the national GDP.

Education during Covid-19 Pandemic

The pandemic has severely impacted educational systems globally. Most governments have temporarily closed educational institutions, with many switching to online education. As of 30 September 2020, approximately 1.077 billion learners are currently affected due to school closures in response to the pandemic. According to UNICEF monitoring, 53 countries are currently implementing nationwide closures and 27 are implementing local closures, impacting about 61.6 percent of the world's student population.

School closures impact not only students, teachers, and families but have far-reaching economic and societal consequences. School closures in response to the pandemic have shed light on various social and economic issues, including student debt, digital learning, food insecurity, and homelessness, as well as access to childcare, health care, housing, internet, and disability services. The impact has been more severe for disadvantaged children and their families, causing interrupted learning, compromised nutrition, childcare problems, and consequent economic cost to families who cannot work.

As one of educator in MARA education system, I have seen the impact right in front of my eyes by myself. My college have release an instruction that all Teaching and Learning (TaL) session must be conducted online. We should be grateful that this pandemic are occuring during this Modern Internet Era. Hence, education still can be continued even the physical class are not in place and students still can graduate on-time or taken big examination such as SPM in time.

Now let's take some time and think what will happen to education if this pandemic is occurring during the microcomputer era?

Microcomputer Era

Computers were first instructionally used in the 1950s to train MIT pilots in flight simulators. From there computer usage in the classroom evolved to teaching binary arithmetic to elementary students. Universities had time-sharing capabilities with a single large-scale computer known as a mainframe. Students could reserve time on these computers for calculations and computer-assisted instruction. Eventually this evolved into applications or programs that kept track of students' performance data and mastery of certain learning objectives. These early computer systems were extremely expensive and took up enormous amounts of space. They were also very expensive to maintain and controlled by universities and industries.

Let's have a look on this video to see the history of computer. Don't get suprise! Even though the computer is call 'micro', it does not represent their size during that time. Its size could be a size of one classroom!

In the late 1970s new technology decreased the size of mainframe computers and lead to microcomputers. Teachers almost immediately began introducing these new devices to their students. In addition, teachers and companies began developing software incorporating computers in the teaching/learning process.  By the end of the 1970s Arthur Luehrmann had coined the term computer literacy, and computer skills seemed to be necessary for the future. The computer literacy movement emphasized computer skills, but these skills were difficult to define and measure.  Also during this era companies began developing curriculum on videodiscs which sometimes used the microcomputers, but these tools were short-lived.  An emphasis on teaching a programming language called Logo enjoyed some popularity as a problem-solving skill developer, but it too faded when quantifiable gains in core subjects failed to emerge. Microcomputers remained popular in the secular world, and the education world continued to work to integrate them into the curriculum.

Education During Pandemic at Microcomputer Era

As we know, during Microcomputer Era there was no internet being used at that time. Computer are used for a simpler task but not for a complex task such education and learning.

From my point of view, if Covid-19 outbreak is occur during Microcomputer Era education will still continue using a few consevative medium such as postage, TV and Radio.

For a postage medium, Schools and teachers might provide the necessary modules and resouces such as notes, book, exercise or even a video tape sent to all students at home to be learnt at their own homes. The exercise and test will need to be submitted by students by postage or send it to the school.

Besides, during microcomputer era TV and radio has become an attraction for people at that era. It is most likely for a government to create class nationally through TV or radio. Government might create class according to he students level based on channel. For example, student in Form 5 will be watching a Channel 1 for their class according to their schedule. Students in Form 3 will be referring Channel 3 for their lessons and so on.

I am convincedly that education will never stop even humanity is facing any obstacles as education is essential as a growth factor among children and teenagers. Government will think the best solution to deliver the education for the people.

So, give your thoughts about this!

Assalamualaikum and hi everyone!

This blog is created as a platform for me to learn how to use ICT as one of my teaching method.  It is one of the task given by my lecturer, Ms Aimi Syafiqah for my subject Emerging Technology in Teaching and Learning.

Actually, for the point of this task is to create any online writing site in the internet as our platform. At first I am quite excited in completing this task and I have decided to use wix.com as my platform without knowing the complexity of the website. After exploring the site few days, I decided that I have to change my mind. The website is to complicated. I am struggling!

Hence, here we go. I am confident that Blog is the simple platform I can use for this task. Sorry madam for changing my decision!

After all, after writing in this blog I am feeling interested to write more in this blog. I have never done any blogging before but this is a very good time to start with it!

I am looking forward to share in this blog everything I learnt in this class and everything I taught to my students. My core subjects that I am currently teaching are Halal Standards and Guidelines, Halal Slaughtering and Halal Logistics Management.

Fun Fact!

1. Do you know? The first Halal Standard ever established in the world was created by Malaysia!

2. Do you know? In industry of poultry slaughterhouse, electric is used to stunt the poultry and it is Halal!

3. Do you know? In transportation logistic there is one mode of transport which is pipeline is used in transporting a product!
